Need an escape from the Iraqi heat? Swim with the buffalo

No electricity, no generator, no water color? No problem for these youth.

"The temperature is too high and there is no electricity, we have no option but to swim with these buffaloes to cool ourselves down," one Iraqi, Hussein Jewad, tells Rudaw.

People in Baghdad are cooling down in the marshes as the temperature reach 43 degrees Celsius.

Sometimes they swim in the same water as buffaloes, even jumping off their backs into the cool water.

There are pools in Baghdad, but due to the financial crisis many people can’t afford to swim there.
