Gallaudet University opens doors for deaf students from around world
WASHINGTON DC – At Gallaudet University, deaf and hard of hearing students from around the world, take advantage of the rich academic environment and strong community bonds to study math, biology, and philosophy without the use of the voice.
The only institution of the kind in the world, students in 40 different majors learn using American Sign Language.
The university is also leading the way in research and development for concepts and technologies that meet the unique needs of their community.
For the school’s international students, who make up eight percent of the student body, they feel an equality that they don’t have at home.
“Coming to Gallaudet, it’s opened so many opportunities,” said Obaidullah Bakali, a student from Pakistan.
