President Barzani meets Bulgarian president in Munich

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Saturday held a meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference where they discussed further developing ties between their two governments.

“We have long-time relations and there is a huge potential to further expand and deepen our relations. We will try to support your country and further develop your relations, not just with Bulgaria but with the European Union. We are ready to support you in exporting your oil, your gas, your products to Europe,” Bulgarian President Rumen Radev told Rudaw’s Alla Shally.

Radev said they talked about “a lot of opportunities, mainly in supporting politically and economically your country.”

A statement from Kurdistan Region’s Presidency said their meeting “focused on enhancing the relationship between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Bulgaria, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration in economic matters, as well as addressing political and security developments in Iraq and the surrounding region.”

 

“President Barzani highlighted the Kurdistan Region's commitment to advancing ties with Bulgaria and commended Bulgaria's contributions to the international coalition against terrorism, while also expressing optimism about exploring new avenues for cooperation in shared interests,” the statement added.

President Barzani has met with numerous world leaders and officials since arriving in Munich on Thursday, discussing security concerns and the Kurdistan Region’s role in regional developments.

The Munich Security Conference is an annual event bringing together world decision makers, academics, and civil society leaders to discuss security issues.
