Iran delivers 14-point proposal to US through Pakistan after amendment

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran has delivered an amended 14-point proposal to the US through Pakistan mediation, semi-official media reported on Monday, as talks aimed at reaching a permanent truce to the war have stalled.

“Iran has delivered its latest text in 14 points through Pakistani mediation, and the Pakistani mediator is presenting it to the Americans,” the semi-official Tasnim News Agency said, citing a source close to the Iranian negotiation team.

Negotiations between the US and Iran are deadlocked, with both sides rejecting recent proposals. Despite a ceasefire agreed upon on April 8 to end the war that began between the US, Israel, and Iran in late February, diplomatic efforts have stalled.

The source said the US side “recently sent a text in response to Iran's previous text”, which was also presented in 14 points, adding that the new text was presented “after making amendments.”

The source added that the text “is focused on the subject of negotiations for ending the war and confidence-building measures by the American side.”

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a press briefing on Monday that Tehran had responded to the latest American negotiation proposal.

The US and Israel launched a wide-scale aerial campaign against Iran on February 28, striking more than 17,000 sites across the country over six weeks of hostilities before the sides agreed to a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire. The truce halted fighting for two weeks and paved the way for negotiations.

While the first round of talks concluded without a final agreement on April 11, a second round has yet to take place, with a comprehensive resolution to the conflict still pending.

In parallel with the diplomatic efforts, Iran and the US have engaged in tit-for-tat maritime measures. Tehran has tightened its grip on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington initiated a maritime blockade on Iranian ports on April 13.
