Oppression of Iranian people cannot be tolerated: Belgian PM
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The prime minister of Belgium warns that the oppression of the Iranian people at the hands of the Islamic republic, as the country enters more than a month of ongoing protests, is something that cannot be tolerated.
Iran is currently in its fifth week of protests which have engulfed the country since the death of Kurdish Mahsa (Zhina) Amini on September 16 while in the custody of the morality police in Tehran. The use of violence by Iranian security forces to disperse the demonstrators has been widely condemned by the international community.
Iran has also been accused of supporting Russia in the fight against Ukraine.
Responding to Rudaw's Alla Shally in Brussels, Alexander De Croo also hinted at the use of Iranian drones by Russian in the war on Ukraine, saying Tehran's intervention in this conflict is becoming "more and more clear"
"As European countries, I think we should react," De Croo added.
The heads of European countries met in Brussels on Thursday and Friday to discuss a range of topics, most notably introducing a new package to bring energy prices under control caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
