NEW YORK, United States - United Nations Security Council met on Wednesday to discuss Syria. It also touched on the March agreement between the Kurdish-led forces in northeast Syria (Rojava) and Damascus.
In the meeting, almost all Security Council members once again welcomed the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus. France made reference to this, saying that the promises made to the Kurds should be implemented.
Jay Dharmadhikari, Deputy Representative of France to the UN, said during the meeting that France expects the promises made to Kurds in Rojava to be implemented.
“We expect that the commitments regarding the Syrian Kurds will be implemented,” he said, adding that the move is “an opportunity to be seized upon in order to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.”
Geir Pedersen, UN Special Envoy for Syria, said at the same event that “the tenth March agreement continues to present the historical opportunity to solve some of the key outstanding issues in this country.”
