Shooting near White House targets multiple people

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Several people were shot near the White House late Wednesday, including national guards. Police say one suspect has been detained.

The shooting took place a few blocks away from the White House.

Several American media outlets reported that the shooting caused casualties.

“The scene is secured. One suspect is in custody,” said the DC Police Department without providing details of the incident.

At least two national guards were shot in the incident.

"Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.," Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, said on X, adding that her department is "working with local law enforcement to gather more information."

"The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price," US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social.
