ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Prime Minister of Israel has reportedly expressed his support for an independent Kurdistan.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed a “positive attitude” towards an independent Kurdistan state emerging out of northern Iraq, according to a report in the Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

He made the comment in a meeting with a visiting delegation of 33 US Republican congress members, telling them the Kurds are a “brave, pro-Western people who share our values.”

The Kurdistan Region and Israel do not have official relations but have enjoyed friendly ties.

The Kurdish Jewish Community (KJC) says Jews around the world welcomed the decision to hold a referendum on independence.

“On behalf of the all Kurdish Jews in Kurdistan and diaspora, we call upon all the free and genuine nations in Mesopotamia, we call upon the significant and distinguished people, we call all the political parties and social groups to put an end for suppression, mass atrocities, displacement, occupation, destroying civilization, history, and our existence, and for the sake of our future generations to serve humanity and live in a peaceful society, let altogether vote and say (YES) for independence of Kurdistan,” read a statement from the KJC in June.

Shiite leaders have argued that Israel will support the Kurdistan vote in order to undermine the Iraqi nation

“Israel has always sought to have a strong base in the Middle East and, because of this, supports holding referendum, dividing Iraq, and creating divisions among the Iraqi people,” Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Shiite National Alliance, told Iran’s parliament speaker in July.

Kurdistan and Israel are ancient nation's .Iraq is not even a native creation , being the result of Anglo / Franco design . Hakim would gladly see Iraq a provence of islamic iran . What he has to say on Kurdistan and Israel is useless and false .

So not one official or leader from the entire 'Islamic world' has officially endorsed the right of 40 million "Muslim" Kurds to freedom and independence. Most Muslim countries are out right against it and are saying so publicly, while those few who don't mind dare not speak up. The exact same behavior when we were being gassed by Saddam's chemical weapons, they were all silent or siding with Saddam. Well I'm here to tell them all that as a Kurd a value Netanyahus shoe more than the entire Islamic world! in fact the shoe of a random Jew is better than all of them! We will NEVER forget who stood by us in our time of need

Oh really after they were kicked by Turkey now they come to Kurds? First they tried with Turkey supported a nationalist Kmalist Turkey and gave them all weapons Turks needed to massacre Kurds. Israel is still one of the biggest supplier of weapons for Turkey Israeli pilots are trained in Turkey. When Kemalist nationalist CHP comes to power Israel would bomb Kurds together with Turkey.

The uncivilized barbarians surrounding us and occupying our land will always accuse us of being in cahoots with Israel, even those countries who have Israeli ambassadors and do trade and all kind of business with them. So why not make our relationship with Israel official? to hell with anyone who barks about it, they are a friendly nation who have the exact same problem as us

I know I'm not alone in saying as Kurds we thank Israel and the people of Israel. The Iranian trolls who have infested the comment section of Rudaw lately can now knock themselves out by down voting my comment and make dozens of negative comments, that's all they're good for.
