One Nepali dead, 3 injured in explosion at Sulaimani steel plant

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – An explosion at a steel melting plant in Sulaimani has killed one Nepali worker and wounded three others.

The explosion happened at 6:15 Wednesday evening at the Sulaimani Steel Factory in Bazian town, an official said.

“A worker was killed and three others wounded, all Nepali nationals,” said Iqbal Mohammed, Sulaimani Suburban Police spokesperson. The wounded were rushed to hospital.

“The burner melts old steel,” he explained. “While melting, a piece of steel at a high burning temperature has blown up.”

 

An investigation into the incident has begun, he added.
