ZUMAR, Iraq — Peshmerga troops have entered Zumar northwest of Mosul and are engaged in fierce battles with Islamist militants for control of the district, Rudaw’s correspondent reported Saturday.

The Kurdish forces launched the offensive after capturing the Ain Zala oilfields just outside of Zumar on Wednesday. The Islamic State (IS) fighters torched three oil wells as they retreated from Ain Zala, 80 kilometers northwest of the IS stronghold, Mosul.

Peshmerga forces on Wednesday also captured the strategic mountain of Batna, which overlooks Zumar and Ain Zala. The Peshmerga have been able to recapture several IS-controlled towns after receiving weaponry from the United States and other nations. The operations in Nineveh province over the past week were carried out without the support of US air strikes.

And after our Peshmerga liberates all these areas and the Kurdish parties help form a new government in Baghdad the US will go back to putting all it's weight behind the Arabs again, like nothing even happened, they will even make up stories about how Baghdad was "cooperating" and "sending" the Kurds weapons like a few weeks ago. In a year everything this "new" Iraqi government signs with the Kurds concerning implementing article 140, the budget, the Peshmerga and the oil law will be sabotaged and disregarded completely by the Arab parties, with full backing of the US, EU and Iran of course.

Hopefully the Peshmerga forces now are able and ready to launch the offensive operation to capture and liberate all Kurdish territories and, certainly, Mosul. It is time to finish successfully the territorial, economic, social and humanitarian reintegration of Southern Kurdistan in order to declare full independence from Iraq. Help the weak-headed political leaderships of the Western countries to wake up and to see clearly the catastrophic consequences of their wishful and misleading idea to unite and reanimate the finally dead Iraqi pseudo federal state. There will be no IS or SIS, but only an independent country and a sovereign democratic and secular state on the peaceful and secured territory of Southern Kurdistan - the noble homeland of the Kurdish people and all other native and ancient ethnical, cultural and religious communities. Mr. President Barzani, please show Mr. President Obama and his Western partners the positive and impressive strategy for how to get out of the failed and very negative Iraqi project.
