Iraqi parliament’s election campaigns officially kicked off on Sunday in the Kurdistan Region.

Party supporters and members could be seen hanging candidates’ posters, emblems, banners, and flags on and along streets and storefronts.

Sulaimani is the epicenter of rivalries during this campaign season. The PUK stronghold faces challenges from Gorran, CDJ, the New Generation, Islamic parties, and even Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi's Victory Alliance.

Of the 329 Iraqi parliament seats, 18 are dedicated for Sulaimani which is the largest province in the Kurdistan Region and includes Halabja for elections, 16 for Erbil, and 12 for Duhok.
