The rainy season in the Kurdistan Region was late this year, and a slew of recent storms are wreaking havoc at Sardasht Camp in Duhok.

Tents, common spaces, and stores have been flooded and damaged.

"This store had goods worth about $15,000. You can see what has happened to us. Look at our condition. Ten family members depended on this store. You can see that nothing is left," Khalaf Murad, an IDP from Shingal told Rudaw.

Shingal is the Yezidi homeland. But security remains a concern and infrastructure.

Iraq will hold parliamentary elections on Saturday and some people displaced from Shingal feel disenfranchised.

"When the weather conditions were good, each day a Jeep would come and say ‘Vote for us.’ When it rained they said, ‘We cannot visit you and cannot meet with you.’ I will not vote for anyone. Will they restore our belongings and stores? They are starving. There is nothing left," said Ali Huriin.
