ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Commercial air travel to and from Baghdad International Airport has halted after staff were threatening to strike.

Baghdad airport's flight tracker showed many outbound and inbound flights canceled on Tuesday night. Some European flights were listed as 'delayed.'

A source inside the airport told Rudaw of the planned strike on Monday and of the dismissals.

The suspension of flights limits the movements of people in northern and central Iraq. Basra is now the only operating international airport.

Late in September, the international airports in Erbil and Sulaimani were restricted to domestic flights. Visitors were not granted visas upon arrival even for transit to the Kurdistan Region.
