ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kurdistan Region's security and counterterrorism forces on Sunday handed over several Iraqi lawmakers and senior officials to the Iraqi Integrity Commission at the Pirde (Altun Kupri) checkpoint between Erbil and Kirkuk.
The detainees included lawmakers Mohammed Jameel al-Mayahi, Ashwaq Salem Hassan al-Jubouri, and Ziad Tariq al-Janabi, according to information obtained by Rudaw's Hardi Mohammed. Several members of their staff and security details were also transferred, including Alaa Sattar Mahmoud, Saif Talib, Ali Jasim, Osman Aboud al-Janabi, and Ali Salah al-Janabi.
Rudaw has also learned that five senior officials from Iraqi government institutions who were previously detained in Erbil by the Kurdistan Region's counter-terrorism forces were among those handed over to federal authorities.
The detainees were transferred into the custody of the Iraqi Integrity Commission, which is overseeing the ongoing investigations.
The handover comes amid coordination between Erbil and Baghdad following a wide-ranging anti-corruption campaign launched by Iraqi authorities on Sunday that resulted in the arrest of dozens of lawmakers and officials across the country.
The Iraqi Prime Minister's Media Office announced that government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi will hold a press conference on Monday to provide further details about the operation and the investigations.
