In Yangija, a small village near the city of Mariwan in eastern Kurdistan, people have made it a tradition to celebrate Newrozana on the eve of the Kurdish new year of Newroz. It is an event mainly designed for children who receive gifts from a man named Bawa Newroz and dressed as an old man in full Kurdish attire. Yangija has become a village were other cultural events and gatherings are held every year.
