ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Renowned Kurdish poet Abdulla Pashew launched a Finnish-language collection of his poems in Helsinki on Thursday, reading some of his work to an audience of European writers and literary figures.
Pashew recited his poem “The Lost Soldier” to mark the launch of the collection. The poems were translated from Kurdish into Finnish by Minna Torppa and published by the Finnish printing house Pakett.
Pashew, 78, is from Sulaimani in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. He has published several collections of poetry, often exploring themes of identity, exile, and the Kurdish experience.
His work has been translated into multiple languages and is widely recognized in both Kurdish and international literary circles. Some of his notable collections include The Secret of Solitude, The Garden of Solitude, and The Migrant’s Song.
The Helsinki launch highlights growing international interest in Kurdish literature and Pashew’s influence on contemporary poetry.
