ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The second Kurdish Film Festival in Dusseldorf will wrap up on Sunday with an awards ceremony.

This year’s festival featured films from directors across all four parts of Kurdistan - Kurdistan Region, Iran, Turkey, and Syria - with a special emphasis on female filmmakers, Rawand Jawad, one of the organizers, told Rudaw.

Nine female directors participated in the event, he added.

Nearly 40 films were shown over four days. The festival opened with a screening of The Virgin and Child, directed by Benevsha Berivan.

An 84-minute film about Sinjar, directed by Dersim Zerevan from Turkey, was also shown.

Among the documentaries on offer, The Unseen Photos of Anfal, directed by Hawraz Mohammed and produced by Rudaw Media Network, was screened outside the competition on the second day of the festival.

A total of 15 documentaries and 19 short films are competing for awards.

All films were presented with German or English subtitles.
