Home of Kurdish poet in Iran declared important state museum

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The home of poet Hemin Mukriyani has been officially listed among Iran’s best and most important museums.

“The home of the renowned Kurdish poet and literary figure, Hemin Mukriyani, in the city of Mahabad in east Kurdistan is determined as the best and most important museum in Iran by the Iranian government. It has been given the nickname ‘Grand Museum’,” Salah Payaniani, manager of Hemin’s home, told Rudaw.

“The home of Hemin Mukriyani has been a museum for three years. Out of the 400 places selected to be museums, Mukriyani’s home was selected to be the 20th important museum by the Iranian government,” he added.

“According to the Iranian government’s decision, because the home of Hemin Mukriyani has been selected as a semi-state museum, it will remain as a permanent museum and no one can close it,” he explained.

Hemin Mukriyani is the pen name of renowned Kurdish writer and poet Saed Mohammed Amini, the son of Saed Hasan Shaykh al Islami Mukriyani. He was born in 1921 in the village of Lachini near Mahabad in east Kurdistan as the Kurdish area of Iran is known. 

He was named one of two national poets of the short-lived Kurdish state the Republic of Mahabad. 

He died on April 16, 1986 in Urmia.
