ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The Kurdish film El Clasico has won the audience award at the Norwegian International Film Festival.

The People’s Amanda award was presented to the film’s director, Halkawt Mustafa, by Linda Hofstad, Norway’s Minister of Culture. The film also received the award for best music.

The award, voted on by audiences, is considered one of the most prestigious in Norway. After receiving the honour, Mustafa expressed his delight and thanked the crew of the film. He also announced that he is working on a new film.

El Clasico tells the story of Alan and Shirwan, Kurdish brothers and little people, who decide to deliver handmade football shoes to their hero, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, with the hope that he will convince the father of the woman Alan loves to permit their marriage.

The film has been shown at worldwide film festivals and received many awards.

The Amanda awards are given annually at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, Norway.
