ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A twelve year old Yezidi girl has been rescued in west Mosul, the Kurdistan Region Security Council announced on Friday.
The girl, identified as Khatrin, is from Khanasoor in the Shingal region. “Khatrin was held by American ISIL terrorist Naser Ebrahim Hamoud Taha al-Hadidi in ISIL’s Jazira Province,” the Security Council tweeted.
Khatrin will be reunited with her family, the Security Council added.
More than 3,000 Yezidis remain in ISIS captivity more than two and a half years after the extremist group attacked the Shingal region, carrying out genocide against the minority community, according to figures from the advocacy group Yazda.
