ERBIL, Kurdistan Region— Rudaw has obtained a new photo of Alan, the 2-year-old Kurdish toddler who drowned with 11 other migrants, including his mother and 4-year-brother off the coast of Bodrum in Turkey.

In the photo, the ill-fated Alan is seen sleeping in a blue shirt, covered with a blue blanket. The apparently cellphone-image was taken six hours before departing towards the Greek island of Kos, relatives said.

Alan’s father Abdullah Kurdi told reporters on Thursday that he wished to return his drowned family to their native Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan, or Rojava, in order to bury them.

British Daily Mail on Friday published an old photo of Alan and his mother, Rehan, in which she holds the then 1-year-old.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was saddened when seeing Alan’s picture, adding that Britain will work with other European nations to receive more migrants.

"Anyone who saw those pictures overnight could not help but be moved and, as a father, I felt deeply moved by the sight of that young boy on a beach in Turkey,” Cameron said in a statement Thursday.

"Britain is a moral nation and we will fulfill our moral responsibilities,” he added.
