ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A drone attack targeted a residential area in a camp belonging to the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) near Koya in Erbil province on Thursday evening, said the party.
The strike hit the Zawi Spi camp, located on the outskirts of Koya district and home to women, children, and other civilians.
A source from the camp told Rudaw that the drone struck a civilian house at around 06:55 pm local time, damaging the building.
In a statement, the KDPI said Iran carried out the strike, targeting a civilian residential area.
“Iran conducted a drone attack against the civilian residential area of Zewie Spi belonging to the PDKI. The drone targeted a civilian house, destroying it. No casualties are reported,” the party said.
The attack marks the first time the Zawi Spi camp in Koya has been targeted.
Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region have been repeatedly targeted with drones and missiles since the outbreak of the regional war between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Several camps belonging to Kurdish opposition parties in Koya district, including Amiriya and Azadi, have been hit multiple times in recent days as tensions escalate.
The Kurdistan Region has been struck by hundreds of drones and missiles since the conflict began, with many of the attacks targeting areas hosting Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
