ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A drone strike targeted a base belonging to the Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Struggle (Khabat), an Iranian Kurdish opposition party based in the Kurdistan Region, on Friday, killing two members and injuring four others.
Blaming the Islamic Republic of Iran, Khabat said the attack struck its base in the Bashik heights of Nineveh province on Friday afternoon.
Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region have been repeatedly targeted by drones and missiles since the outbreak of the regional war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Several camps belonging to Kurdish opposition parties in Erbil province’s Koya district, including Amiriya and Azadi, have been hit multiple times in recent days as tensions escalate.
The Kurdistan Region has been struck by nearly 300 drones and missiles since the conflict began, with many of the attacks targeting areas hosting Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
Earlier on Friday, around five missiles struck Azadi Camp in Koya district, a facility housing members and families of the Iranian Kurdish opposition Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI).
At around noon, two drones also struck KDPI positions in the Akoyan Valley in Erbil province. A party official told Rudaw the attack was carried out by Iran but caused no casualties.
