ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Monday, with both leaders describing Iran’s Sunday missile attack on Erbil as a “serious development,” according to a statement from the Office of the President.
Iran fired a dozen ballistic missiles in the early hours of Sunday, hitting several targets on the outskirts of Erbil. Kurdish authorities confirmed that two civilians suffered minor injuries as a result.
Kadhimi arrived in Erbil on Monday, visiting the targeted areas and meeting with senior Kurdish officials.
Before returning to Baghdad, Kadhimi visited President Barzani.
“Both sides emphasised that the attack is a serious development and a clear violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” read the statement from the Office of the President, adding that it also “puts the security, tranquillity, and stability of whole Iraq at risk.”
