HAJI OAMARAN BORDER POINT, Kurdistan Region – The Iranian Government has recently reopened semi-official borders between the country and the Kurdistan Region and issued cards to 80,000 traders in an effort to regulate the border trade.
Rudaw’s reporter at the Haji Oamaran border point reported that dozens of traders are seen carrying goods to Iran and vice versa.
A trader told Rudaw that they used to carry many items from the Kurdistan Region to Iran but the some of the items had been recently banned by Iran and the traders had to bring them back to the Kurdistan Region.
Traders complain that Iran changes its custom rules frequently and they have to adapt themselves to the new rules.
Iranian Kurdish border cities and towns have seen protests and strikes over the closure of the border in recent months. Now traders are happy to see the borders reopened, saying their situation is improved.
