DUHOK, Kurdistan Region – Turkish jets overnight struck near Shiladze in the north of the Kurdistan Region.

“The bombing claimed no civilian lives,” Darwesh Siri, assistant manager of Amedi Health, told Rudaw.

They had sent ambulances to the area that came under fire and their teams remained on standby through the night as a precaution, he added.

Turkish jets bombed the Ballende gorge, Khalid Rekani, a resident of Sire, a village less than a kilometer from the gorge, told Rudaw.

The road to Ballende gorge has been temporarily closed after it was hit in the airstrikes, Warshin Salman, councilor from Shiladze, told Rudaw.

The area is near a well-travelled route and the bombing spread fear among the local population.

The Turkish army claimed it had killed six PKK fighters in airstrikes in the Kurdistan Region on Friday.

Turkey is carrying out an air and ground operation against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region, aiming for the PKK headquarters in the Qandil Mountains.

Several civilians have been killed in airstrikes that have also been blamed as a factor in the many wildfires burning in the Kurdistan Region this summer.
