KHAZIR FRONT, Kurdistan Region – Mustafa Saeed, a cameraman for the official Kurdistan TV was killed and correspondent Hemin Nanakali was wounded Sunday while covering Peshmerga operations on the Khazir front against Islamic State (ISIS) militants, the channel reported.
Meanwhile, A Rudaw Media Network team covering the clashes on the same front was ambushed by the radical militants, but rescued by a team of Peshmerga soldiers.
The Rudaw team consisted of reporters Nechirvan Hussein, Farhad Dolamari and Hevidar Ahmed, together with six other co-workers.
A major Peshmerga operation launched against ISIS in the early hours of Sunday has freed six villages so far.
The Kurdish forces aim to retake 11 villages in total, most of them Kurdish, with a few Arab villages among them.
Kurdish President Masoud Barzani who is commander-in-chief of the Peshmerga is supervising the operation.
