Families of Al-Anfal victims commemorated the grisly anniversary in the city of Kalar in the Garmian region Tuesday.
Twenty-seven years ago, the Kurdish people were subjected to a brutal campaign of extermination by the central Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein. Baghdad called the genocide Al-Anfal, which in Quranic Arabic means “The Spoils of War."
The aim of Al-Anfal was to eradicate our people and national identity. It failed.
