ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani visited Peshmerga forces on the frontline north of Kirkuk on the Eid ul-Fitr feast on Friday, warning soldiers and commanders about looming threats by the Islamic State (ISIS) group.
The president praised the Peshmerga for confronting the ISIS terrorist group, in a meeting with top commanders and other security officials in Kirkuk. He then left to visit the Peshmerga trenches on the Mekhmour front.
Kirkuk province police director Sarhad Qadir told Rudaw that Barzani warned all security forces in the area about looming ISIS threats.
He said the president also had stressed that the frontiers of Kirkuk city should be protected vigilantly against possible ISIS attacks.
According to Qadir, Barzani also called on the Peshmerga -- as a national force -- to stay away from political and factional disputes in the area.
He said that, despite differences among different Kurdish factions, they were all united in defending Kurdistan.
