ERBIL, Kurdistan Region- Newly recruited members of Peshmerga Forces Unit 80, commanded by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), undergo training in the winter cold.

It has been a year and a half that new recruits and members of the unit have undergone military training and war tactics.

So far, four brigades have already finished the training.

Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga are deeply divided and not a fully national force under the commander in chief of armed forces, namely the Regional President.

Unit 70 is is commanded by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Some Peshmerga are united under the banner of Ministry of Peshmerga.

Many Peshmerga joined the forces as a source of income, and the large majority have not undergone necessary training and war studies.

Currently the Ministry of Peshmerga is working on a reforms program, backed by the US-led International Coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS) in a bid to unify Peshmerga forces.
