ERBIL, Kurdistan Region- At least six militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) surrendered to Kurdish Peshmerga forces Saturday morning on the western Kirkuk front, a Kurdish Peshmerga told Rudaw.

“On Saturday morning, six ISIS militants surrendered to Peshmerga and they are now being questioned,” said Kamal Kirkuki, a Peshmerga commander on the Kirkuk front.

“One of the ISIS militants was wounded while he surrendered to Peshmerga,” Kirkuki added.

The militant surrenders came hours after the Peshmerga repelled an ISIS attack on their bases Friday night.

The militants mounted the attack at 10pm from Wadi Naft village in western Kirkuk as a result of which three Peshmerga soldiers were wounded.

The Peshmerga defense lines south and west of Kirkuk have experienced some of the most intense battles with ISIS in the last two years.

Peshmerga officials have reported many ISIS surrenders on the Kirkuk and Makhmour fronts since the start of this year.
