Deceased PUK co-founder buried in Sulaimani

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – The body of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) co-founded Adil Murad was repatriated from Germany to the Kurdistan Region on Thursday. He has been buried on Saleem Bag Mount in Sulaimani.

A ceremony to pay tribute to Murad was held at Sulaimani Airport, attended by Iraqi President Fuad Masum, PUK leaders, and Murad’s family, who laid a wreath on his coffin.

Murad was in Germany receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Cologne.

Services will be held at Ahmadi Haji Ali mosque in the city of Sulaimani on Friday, and in Erbil on Saturday, Qadir Aziz, PUK politburo member, told Rudaw.

He will also be mourned in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities.

Murad was born on December 11, 1949, in Khanaqin. He completed his undergraduate studies at Baghdad University and started his political career at a young age.

He was head of the PUK’s media bureau for a few years and was Iraq’s ambassador to Romania for four years.

He also served as the PUK’s representative in Damascus for some time.

Murad co-founded the PUK on June 1, 1975 in the Syrian capital with Jalal Talabani, Nawshirwan Mustafa, Fuad Masum and some others.
