The Kurdistan Region’s largest winter attraction, Mount Korek, is accessible by cable car. Tourists there can ski, play other winter sports, and dance to stay warm.

“The snow is very beautiful. The nature and environment of this place amazed me,” Sahar Karim, a tourist from Baghdad, told Rudaw. “You cannot blink your eyes or you’ll miss its beauty.”

Mount Korek, 2,115 meters above sea level, is the biggest winter tourist attraction in the Kurdistan Region.

Snowfall and adventure games, such as paintball, are the main attractions drawing tourists to this white-blanketed spot.

As part of its plans to boost winter tourism in the Kurdistan Region, a Mount Korek project was started by the KRG for tourists in 2013 after three years of construction.

In an attempt to increase revenue, the KRG has been working over the past two years on developing and upgrading the region’s tourism sector.
