ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—A coalition fighter plane requested the Erbil international airport for an emergency landing Sunday afternoon due to technical issues in midair, said the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council in a statement.

“A coalition fighter jet faced engine problems in the airspace of the Kurdistan Region and requested landing at Erbil airport which was carried out successfully,” the KRSC statement said.

“In order to avoid risks during the emergency landing the fighter jet was asked to drop its bombs and ammunition and therefore in coordination with the joint operations command a location 10 km northwest of Shaqlawa was designated where it dropped its bombs at 14:35 hours safely and without causing any damages,” the statement read.
