ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A member of a Peshmerga military band has died in unclear circumstances in Erbil, the police has confirmed, with the ministry saying his death is under investigation.
The body of Jwanro Karim, 44, was found in the village of Palkarash in eastern Erbil province early on Tuesday, Erbil police spokesperson Hogir Aziz said in a statement.
The Peshmerga ministry said they have begun investigating the “crime.”
“The Peshmerga ministry has begun an investigation and taken necessary measures regarding this crime, and the police have begun investigating it. We are waiting for the results of the investigation,” it said in a statement on Facebook.
No details were given as to the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Last night, he was at the ministry in Erbil but went out for dinner. However, he did not return. His colleagues searched for him for a long time, in vain," Niyaz Mohammed, secretary of the Kurdistan Artists Group told Rudaw.
Karim's body has been taken to Sulaimani for burial.
