ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdish music star Adnan Karim newest album delivers Kurdish music to the world, he has told Rudaw English.

The Kirkuk native was born in 1963 before fleeing to Sulaimani with his family, and then onto Sweden in 1992.

He composes his own music and often plays the instruments himself. His newest album, Shawba, was produced with the Czech Symphonic Orchestra.

He says Shawba invites the world to better understand Kurdish music.

“In order for the world to understand your culture and music, you need to mix with other cultures, and that is why I have cooperated with the Czech Symphonic Orchestra, in order to deliver my Kurdish music to the world,” he told Rudaw English.

Karim believes that “it is important to have links with the outside world, to make sure everyone understands that Kurds are not only brave fighters, but enjoy life and have their own music.”
