Rwanga Awards: 30 talented youngsters celebrated in Erbil ceremony

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Thirty young people were handed awards on Thursday in a ceremony at Erbil’s Saad Abdullah Hall organized by the Rwanga Foundation, celebrating their unique skills across various categories including film, programming, and the arts.

Rwanga opened applications for its sixth annual awards ceremony between July 28 and October 15. The 30 names were shortlisted as finalists across ten categories. 

Hemin Hadi won the entrepreneurs category, Matin Diler scientific innovation, Lavin Ismail program development, Diman Abdullah short story, Kaiwan Bestun short film, Besaran Qassem poetry, Tara Abdullah drawing, Salih Hamasour photography, Payam Abdullah recycled art, and Awder Abdul solo musician. 
 
The remaining 20 finalists were handed awards for second and third place.

The winners came from across the Kurdistan Region and Kirkuk province. Some are currently studying at colleges in the Kurdistan Region. 

Founded in 2013, Rwanga Foundation is a non-governmental organization, “which envisages a world where quality education is accessible for all”, according to its website

“Its mission is to provide services, build capacities and design policies to ensure easy access to education for all and improve the overall educational standards in Kurdistan and the greater global community.” 

Rwanga conducts projects focused on education, young people, the environment, and vulnerable groups.

The foundation’s first awards ceremony was held in 2014. 

Daf player Ahmed Himdad provided a musical interlude during Thursday’s ceremony.
