Turkey and Israel are making headway in finalizing an agreement which will see to the restoration of ties between the two states the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
"The [negotiating] teams made progress towards finalizing the agreement and closing the gaps, and agreed that the deal will be finalized in the next meeting which will be convened very soon," the foreign ministry said in a press release.
The statement followed a meeting between Turkey's undersecretary Feridun Sinirliolu, the Israeli Prime Ministers special envoy, Joseph Ciechanover, and the chairman of Israel's National Security Council General Jacob Nagel in London on Thursday.
They also come a week after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, during his visit to Washington, that he expected positive results from the talks.
The talks aim to normalize ties after they were severely strained following an Israeli commando raid on a Turkish ship, the Mavi Marmara, which was trying to overrun the Israeli blockade on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip back in May 2010 leaving ten people aboard that vessel dead.
