ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - On the ninth day of the war, most of the attacks in western Iran (Rojhelat) were reported in Lorestan province. Mahdi Majidi, deputy governor of Lorestan for reconstruction affairs, said on Sunday that the attacks damaged 67 residential units and 143 commercial units and shops.
On Sunday afternoon, at least five bases of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and police were bombed in Khorramabad, the capital of Lorestan province.
Targets included an IRGC base near the historic Falak-ol-Aflak Castle, IRGC’s Tribal Army, the Army’s 57th Brigade base, and police facilities in Valiasr and Posht-e Hossein Abad.
The Lorestan Cultural Heritage Directorate announced that Falak-ol-Aflak Castle was not damaged in the attack. For several years, there had been calls for the IRGC to evacuate its base located next to the historic structure.
In addition to Khorramabad, Iranian security and military bases were also targeted in the cities of Borujerd, Nurabad, Kuhdasht, Aleshtar, and Rumeshkan in the province.
Media outlets close to the IRGC in Lorestan confirmed that their military bases were targeted but said that all except one had been evacuated earlier, meaning that most of Sunday’s attacks in the province did not cause casualties.
According to videos circulating online, several buildings collapsed in Borujerd as a result of the strikes.
Majidi reiterated on Sunday that as of Saturday, the attacks in the cities of Khorramabad, Borujerd, Chegeni, Nurabad, and Selseleh had damaged 67 residential units and 143 commercial properties and shops.
On Sunday evening, two powerful explosions were heard in the city of Kermanshah. According to the information released, the Kermanshah border guard command headquarters and a police base near a border guard facility were bombed.
Additionally, on Sunday afternoon, an airstrike targeted an IRGC base in Qasr-e Shirin and a police base in Islamabad-e Gharb in Kermanshah province.
Early Sunday morning, Police Station No. 12 near Baharstan Bridge in Saqqez was also bombed.
Media reports also said that on Sunday in Ilam province, an IRGC base and a police station in Abdanan, as well as the IRGC command headquarters in Eyvan, were bombed, though this has not been independently confirmed.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that Iranian authorities are using heavily-populated civilian areas to shelter their forces, and therefore those locations are being targeted. It urged residents to remain in their homes, saying it cannot guarantee the safety of civilians inside or near facilities used by Iran as military bases.
In response, Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, said on Sunday that the United States and Israel are targeting civilian locations. He added that reports of these alleged violations have been submitted to international organizations and international courts.
