The United Nations special representative in Iraq has blamed the recent rise in violence on the Syrian civil war and groups trying create a "sectarian divide" in Iraq.
"A very important factor is the crisis in Syria, but there are also factors within Iraq," said Nickolay Mladenov on Wednesday.
"And this is the presence of groups who want to create a sectarian divide in this country."
Mladenov said that "for this violence to recede, we will need to see all leaders of Iraq".
He was attending a meeting at the Iraqi parliament to mark World Peace Day.
