ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A “technical error” at an ammunition cache in northern Baghdad’s Tarmiyah district killed three officers and injured four, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the cell said that the explosion in Tarmiyah’s Bu Ghantous area occurred while an Iraqi army brigade was investigating the presence of an old ammunition cache.
“During the process of verifying the presence of the cache, a technical error occurred outside the approved procedures, which led to the explosion of the cache and the martyrdom of three officers and the injury of four,” the statement said.
An investigation was launched into the incident.
The cell also denied media reports that a terrorist attack was behind the explosion, reiterating that it was a technical error.
“We call for accuracy in transmitting information and knowing the news exclusively from its official sources,” it urged.
