ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A child survived a car crash northeast of Baghdad on Friday morning that killed three members of a family from Erbil.
“The mother, father, and one of their children lost their lives in the accident,” said a doctor at Sheikh Zari Hospital in Baghdad, where the injured child was being treated.
The injured child is in stable condition.
The collision occurred on the Kirkuk-Baghdad road, close to Baghdad, according to Haider Shaker, media director for the Iraqi traffic directorate
“A private car with Erbil license plates collided with a truck around 3:00 AM this morning,” an eyewitness told Rudaw.
Traffic accidents are a common occurrence in Iraq. Many roads are in substandard condition, having fallen into disrepair, are filled with potholes, and lack proper illumination at night.
