After retaking the town of Hamaniya from ISIS, the Iraqi Army and Christian forces that fought for its liberation raised the Iraqi flag on government buildings there.
Hamdaniya, which is 25 km southeast of Mosul, had a majority Christian population, which was forced to flee to the Kurdistan Region after the ISIS invasion of 2014.
In its two year sway over Hamdaniya, ISIS left the town in ruins, destroying and damaging churches and the places of worship of the Christian population.
