The Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports arranged a football tournament for children in Afrin.

Children 14-16 years old were eligible for the tournament which began last month.

Some 14 sport clubs comprising 46 players were divided over two divisions, and four leading teams were awarded trophies and medals.

Afrin, located in northwest Syria, came under control of Turkey and its proxy forces following a two-month assault in early 2018.

The area had been controlled by the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG), a predominately Kurdish force. Locals have complained of a forced demographic shift that aims to push Kurds out of their westernmost canton in northern Syria, known as Rojava by Kurds.
