ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A number of explosions were reported in Syria’s eastern city of Deir ez-Zor on Saturday, resulting from fresh airstrikes by unidentified aircrafts against Syrian regime and pro-Iran militia groups, according to a war monitor.
“Several explosions took place on Saturday in Deir ez-Zor city and its vicinity which are under the control of the regime and Iranian-affiliated militia,” reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The UK-based war monitor added that the explosions resulted from airstrikes by unidentified war planes against the regime forces and the militants in Hawijah Kate and a nearby bridge in the northern part of Deir ez-Zor city.
Syrian state media also reported the airstrikes without providing more information.
This is the second time in less than a week that these forces are being targeted by unidentified aircrafts, according to the SOHR.
Deir ez-Zor is a strategic city which contains many key oilfields. It is partially controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
