ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Security forces have put Tabqa under curfew while launching a large-scale operation against ISIS.
Local authorities said there have been a series of events putting at risk the security of the city and the surrounding countryside and they have confirmed information that “terrorist organizations” plan to escalate attacks on the people of Taqba.
"The security forces and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in all their formations will carry out several raids on the terrorists' places, who are working to target and destabilize the region through several cowardly acts," said the co-chair of the internal committee of Tabqa’s civil administration Mazlour Omar, ANHA news reported.
While security operations are ongoing, the Internal Security Forces (ISF), previous known as Asayesh, in the Northern Syrian Federation announced a full curfew that came into force Friday morning.
“Citizens will be allowed to move around and meet their needs from 10 am to noon only,” read a statement from the Interior Committee in Tabqa.
The curfew is in effect until further notice.
Tabqa and its dam, located on the Euphrates River west of Raqqa, was a key ISIS location with training facilities and a prison. It was brought under control of the Kurdish-led SDF last year.
