ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Queen Rania of Jordan responded on Friday to a controversial cartoon of Alan Kurdi in the French satirical magazine Cahrlie Hebdo by posting a cartoon of her own on social networking sites.
“What would little Aylan have grown up to be?” said the caption on Queen Rania’s cartoon. “He would have possibly become a doctor, a teacher or a kind father.”
The Queen responded to a similar question in the magazine that suggested little Alan Kurdi would have grown up to be a sex offender in Europe.
The 3-year-old Alan drowned with his family on their way to Greece last year and his lifeless body was found on a Turkish beach which shocked the world.
Queen Rania first sent out her response on Twitter and was later drawn as a cartoon by Jordanian cartoonist Osamah Hajjaj.
Cahrlie Hebdo’s cartoon was condemned by many around the world as racist and disgusting.
Alan Kurd’s own father Abdullah Kurdi said the cartoon was “inhuman and immoral,”
“Today I am more sad than the day I lost (Alan) and my family,” he said in a statement.
“This revealed the true face of this publication and showed that it does not have any regards for the suffering and feelings of human beings,” read his statement.
