Refugees and internally displaced people at Ain Issa camp near Raqqa fear the coming cold season and are appealing to humanitarian organizations for blankets, winter clothes for their children and medication.
“We need blankets for the winter,” says Touria Ibrahim, a woman from Rumaila who like most others has been here for five months. “We need pillows. We need winter clothes for our children. Our situation here is bad. I try to earn a living for my two kids on this small shop. To buy them vegetables. We’ve nothing else. I’m a widow and live on my own in a tent.”
Saud Talal of NGO Affairs Committee inside the camp says they have appealed to organizations around the world but have received no answers yet.
Jassim Ramadhan Haider, another refugee, is satisfied with the supply of food and water. His main concern is medication for all, especially for his own heart condition.
“There are few doctors and very little medicine” Haider says. “The medicine that reach here for children and for adults is too little. I’ve heart problems and I seek medication to no avail. For six or seven years I’ve been suffering and every time I go looking for medication they tell me, tomorrow or the day after. I’ve been in this camp for five months and I’ve received nothing.”

“One of the challenges we’re facing here is preparation for the winter.” Talal says. “The winter has started and we’ve reached out to all NGOs about this, but so far there’s no response. If they had provided just 20 percent of what we need this wouldn’t have happened. It rained and people suffered. The NGOs have not responded.”
According to Talal the number of refugees here is 24,663 in 2,050 tents. “There’s no more space here. I wish this could be transferred to another spot.” Talal said.
