ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Israeli forces based on the border between Syria and Lebanon launched a barrage of missiles towards the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in Syria, targeting Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, reported the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Monday.

No casualties have been reported as of yet, SOHR added.

Israel earlier this month launched artillery strikes targeting Syria in response to Syrian rockets being fired and landing in Golan Heights.

A rocket fired into Israel from Lebanon in April 2022 incited a response from the Israeli military which used warplanes to launch air strikes in Lebanon less than four months later.

Both countries are technically at war with each other, with a ceasefire being monitored by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL).

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on regime-controlled areas of Syria throughout its 11-year civil war, often claiming to target pro-Iran militias, such as Lebanon's Hezbollah group, which supports the Syrian army. However, it very rarely claims responsibility for attacks on Syria.

The Golan Heights were previously controlled by Syria but were seized by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967 and annexed in 1981, although this is not recognized by most of the international community.
