ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The Rojava Self-Ruled Democratic Administration has opened an office in central Paris, France, expanding its international representation.
Sinam Mohamed, the European Representative of the Rojava Self-Ruled Democratic Administration, opened the office on Monday in the presence of Bernard Kouchner, former French foreign minister and founder of medical aid agency Médecins Sans Frontières, and Bernard-Henry Levy, philosopher and director of the documentary Peshmerga that was recently shown at the Cannes film festival.
The Rojava Self-Ruled Democratic Administration is the self-proclaimed government of the Federation of Northern Syria-Rojava. The Democratic Union Party (PYD) is the main party in the political coalition governing the region, which is home to a mix of ethnic groups including Kurds, Sunni and Shiite Arabs, Christian Syriacs, and Yezidis.
“Our priority is to defeat terrorism and create stability in Syria,” said Mohamed.
The Rojava federal region has been declared unlawful by the Syrian government. It is also not officially recognized by France who considers the Syrian National Council to be the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
The Rojava federal region now has offices in Moscow, Berlin, Stockholm, and Prague.
